Market volatility is the main factor that impacted the performance recorded by AFP multi-funds in 2023.

Positive results in international markets and the local stock marketadded to a rise in the price of the dollar, were the main causes of the good performance of the multi-pension funds in December.

According to Ciedess, so far this month the riskier funds, A and B, posted gains of 3.36% and 3.26%, respectively, while fund C, with moderate risk, recorded an increase of 3.26%. For their part, the most conservative funds D and E earn 3.62% and 3.69%, each.

The consulting firm explained that the results of multi-funds A and B are explained by the variation in the prices of variable income instruments, where externally positive results are observed in the main international indices (except in China) and a rise in the dollar. ; while at the local level, an increase in the IPSA is recorded.

"So far this month, the decrease in inflation in the US and a more expansive tone on the part of the FED stand out, which for the market would translate into future rate cuts. Meanwhile, in China, uncertainty persists in the real estate sector, while Moody's downgraded the credit outlook for its debt to negative," the think tank stated.

On the other hand, Ciedess said, the performance of the most conservative funds, D and E, is explained by the results of investments in local debt securities and foreign fixed income instruments.

Annual result: D and E accumulate losses

According to Ciedess analysis, between January and December, the selective ones report mixed results. Funds A and B post gains of 4.72% and 4.28%, respectively, while fund C shows an increase of 2.10%. For their part, funds D and E obtain losses of -0.30% and -1.19%, respectively.

"In 2023, the decrease in the accumulated losses of conservative funds stands out thanks to the increases in November (historical) and December (-10.50% in D and -12.09% in E at the beginning of November). As for funds A and B, they achieved positive results after the increases recorded in July. A similar situation occurred with Fund C, which became positive due to its good performance in November and December," the organization explained.
